We are very pleased to inform you that in the organization of Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijic" SASA and Cultural center "Vuk Karadzic" form Loznica, in period 29-30. October 2018, the International Scientific Conference “The Balkan Peninsula of Jovan Cvijić: Historical Background and Contemporary Trends in Human Geography” was successfully organized.

The Conference is dedicated to the centenary of publishing of the most important
work of Jovan Cvijić in the domain of human geography — La péninsule
balkanique: geographie humaine (1918).
Antropogeographical research in our country, which basis was set a century ago by Jovan Cvijic, his fundamental researches and foundation of anthropogeographic school, was complemented with different scientific approaches. During the first day of the conference, we were able to follow in total 23 interesting presentations of colleagues of different profesional orientations, from nine countries.
Additionally, during the opening ceremony, prof. dr Ljubinka Trgovčević Mitrović introduced us with the details of Cvijić's life in period of creating his capital work holding the lecture "The war path of Jovan Cvijić and the Balkan peninsula".
As part of the ceremonial closure of the conference, premier display of the documentary movie dedicated to Jovan Cvijić was organized. The movie is part of the serial entitled "Serbs giants of science" (Srbi velikani nauke), which autor was journalist Aleksandar Vlajković. On the second day of the confrence excursion to the surroundings of Lozinca was organized, in order to enable the foreign and domestic attendents to visit monastery Tronoša, ethno-complex Tršić, Museum of Jadar in Loznica and Spa Koviljača.
